Such Beauty

I took my pictures of my expecting friends to my photography mentor, Mel - and she worked a little Photoshop Magic on them.

What a gorgeous difference! I still need to learn the art of Photoshop. Sadly, I've had Elements for 2.5 years now... and still haven't installed it on my computer for fear of not having enough memory space. What a waste.

By the way... this beautiful couple isn't expecting anymore! They are now parents to a sweet little girl! Yeah... there will be pictures. Count on it.

I'm not your mentor, but I'll leave a kind critique.

All the shots look underexposed. Basically, the shutter wasn't left open long enough. I try to bracket the shots shooting one at what the meter tells me, then one stop above and then one at one stop below. You can change either the shutter speed to achieve this or the fstop.

They seem a little fuzzy. Did you use a tripod? If the shutter speed has to be low like for example a second, you need to use a tripod to reduce blur.

Either way, I liked the composition. The strong backlight and white was cool. They look happy which is probably what they wanted you to capture.

But now that I think of my comments I need to tell you also that they look good and I like them.

  4. Knot.. thanks.
    I appreciate the critique.

I should try the tripod next time. My 55mm lens is a bit tricky to find the focus... (it's very narrow) and I'm still learning the proper ISO and shutter speed. I was experimenting the whole time.
My mentor is not teaching me to meter... so I have to learn that on my own. I need to go back to links you sent me and learn how.
